WOODVILLE DEFEATED.

ST. PATRICK’S 810 SCORE. AVoodvillo were not at full strength when they met St. Patrick's on ilie JN'o. 2 area at the Showgrounds, and they went under by Uo points to 5. Only very rarely Uid they see enemy territory, and had St. Patrick’s been definitely on their top form the score might easily have approached the halfcentury. Woodville wore only near the opposition line once and on that occasion they secured a try. The game was too one-sided to be really interesting, but at times the rearguard movements by St. Patrick's were spectacular. Tiie teams were: St. Patrick’s. —Richards. R. Gillespie. Donovan. McKeweu. Hchir, M. Gillespie, Edlin. Boss, E. Fell, Anderson, Powell, Findlay, G. Fell, Fowler, Madgwick. Woodville.—Ansi.ll, Rivers, Bryson, Smith, L. Booth, 1. Booth, Bell, Walker. Stewart, Carpenter, Hunt, C. McKinlay, J. Burlace, Hubbard, J. Childs.

St. Patrick's were pressing on the Woodville line within the first few minutes, but over-eagerness cost them two free kicks. Woodville took play back to half-way, hut from a scrum Edlin secured to put in a clever run. Ho passed to R. Gillespie, who went over for an easy try. Edlin converted. The greens continued to attack and a good chance was missed when Donovan put out a wild pass to McKewen when he could easily have gone over himself. The backs were away again, but little ground was gained and E. Gillespie was crowded out. The AVoodville defences were being put to a very severe test, and Al. Gillespie was seen in a corkscrew run which paved the way for a try. However, bad handling _ spoiled the chance and a force down followed. St. Patrick’s had things their own way for a time, but another certainty went by the board when L. Findlay kicked the ball over the line for E. F’ell to pounce on it. F’ell was ruled off-side. He soon made amends, for a little later he was over for a try from a forward melee on the lino. Edlin failed with the kick. Right on top of this came a good movement, and Donovan went over at the corner for Powell to convert with a brilliant kick to make the score 13 —0. Twice before halftime AVoodville had to force down. For the first time during the match AVoodville were the aggressors after the resumption and from a free kick I. Booth failed to find the posts. St. Patrick's had to force down twice and then M. Gillespie broke away with the hall at toe and had a clear run in, but he knocked on ill endeavouring to gather in the leather. From the resultant scrum the green backs

handled and there was another scrum on the line, from which Edlin secured to dash round and score. PowelJ missed with the kick. The greens were away again, and It. Gillespie ran in tor an easy try behind the posts. Edlin converted and St.. Patrick’s led 21—0. Play remained in St. Patrick’s favour and from a loose scrum on the 25-vard line Powell went through with the ball and, gathering it in, forced his way over. Edlin failed with the kick. Hehir soon afterwards secured a nice pass from Edlin and simply ran through the opposition. Powell tailed to convert. \Voodville had a turn on attack and and from a scramble Kivers drew blood for the visitors by scoring and converting. Play went in St. Patrick’s favour again and the forwards took all before them for Fowler to go over for a good try. Edlin_ goaled and the score board read 32 —5. There was a loose rush near the line and the ball was heeled to Edlin who went over. Powell again missed with the kick. The greens were pressing when the final whistle sounded. —St. Patrick's 35, Woodville 5. Mr A. Ward refereed. \
