WOMEN'S INSTITUTE.
MEETING AT WHAKARONGOAt the July meeting of the Whakaronpo Women's Institute there were about 40 members present. The visitors were Mesdames* V. Pedersen, Fountain, R. Cook. Hackitt, Graham and Miss M. Pedersen. It was decided to convey good wishes to Mrs Byers, who is in hospital. Members were reminded of the institute concert and dance in aid of both queen candidates to be held next month. As this month's meeting was in charge of the voung Indies of the institute Mrs Morris handed the control over to Muss M. Yautier. A roll call, "How to pacify a husband" caused much merriment; after which a competition "Draw vour neighbour," was won by Mrs Ox'enham and Mrs Jones. An item was given by the young ladies, who sang several numbers, then musical arms and a balloon game were plavrd. Miss V. Burr was the winner of the lucky cup. The institute birthday cake was handed round and enjoved' by all. A competition for an apron costing not more than Is Gd re* suited:—Married ladies, Mrs Romley 1. Mrs Johanson 2, Mrs Fountain .3'; single ladies. Miss M. Vfutier 1 Mi*s W. Vautier 2, Miss M. Hodgson 3. The results of the popular flower competition were: Married ladies. Mrs Slv 1, Mrs Edwards and Mrs Romlev 2. Mrs Fountain 3; single ladies, Miss J. Wood l.Miss R. Parkes 2. Miss W. Vautier 3. The competition for jam tarts, judged by Mesdame« Graham' and Crawford, resulted : Married ladies Mrs Fountain.!. Mrs Fnfeita 2, Mrs Sly 3; single ladies, Miss M. Vautier 1, Miss R Parkes 2, Miss J- Wood J.
