HARRIERS.
Y.M.C.A. BEAT DANNEVIRIvE. An inter-club race between the Palmerston North Y.M.C.A. and Dnnnevirke Harrier Clubs, held at Palmerston North on Saturday afternoon, resulted in a win for the Palmerston North Club by 12 points to 35, the first four men in each team counting. There were 22 starters. C. Weller took the lead soon after the start, closely followed by J. Scott. N. Hearsey and \. Newlands. At the end of the first lap C. Weller h"d a 150-yard break on J. Scott, who in turn was 100 yards ahead, of D. Mclntyre (Dannevirke), N. Hearsey. S. Oxenham, C. McVicar and A. Preston (Dannevirke)., who were .running in a bunch. The other runners were well behind, A. Newlands dropping back cons'derablv. Running in fine form, over the last throe miles, Weller came in 30v> yards- ahead of J. Scott. D. Mclntyre (Dannevirke), who finished strongly, was the third man to finish. The next four finished within 100 yards of each other, but the remainder of the field were well spread out, although Venn showed a great improvement. Next Saturday an inter-club race will be held against the Marton Club at Palmerston North.
