WEDDING
PACKER—McCALL. A wedding of widespread interest was solemnised at St. John’s Anglican Church, Feilding, on Saturday evening, July 24, 1937, when the marriage took place of Vera Beatrice,' only daughter of Mr and the late Mrs J. R. McCall, of Rongotea, to George William, youngest son of Mr and Mrs J. Packer, Bowen Street, Redding. ' Veil. Archdeacon F. H. Petrie officiated, while Mr A. E. Golding presided at the organ. The bride was preceded into the church by her two bridesmaids and flower girls. Mrs Kelvin Masters was matron-of-honour, 1 and Miss Jessie Towler, niece of tlio bridegroom, and Misses Stella Towler, and Marion Packer were in attendance. Simply cut classical gowns of queen’s purple amoray velvet were worn by the maids,, enhancing features of the gowns being the fully puffed Bleeves, which were completely covered with wood-fibre pansies in three toiling shades of purple, and the long ovalshaped trains which were bordered with rows of, gold stitching. Picture hatk were also worn, the crowns of which were made entirely of wood-fibre pansies, while the brims were of pleated stiffened tulle. Gold sandals peeped from beneath the hemlines of the gowns, while the posies of natural pansies, completed a very striking and unusual toilette. Following the bridesmaids, and looking most winsome, were the two fail'headed little flower girls, Hocked alike in Buckingham lilac taffeta and net. The neck-lines of the frocks were Vshaped and the little bodices tight fitting. while the little sleeves were fully puffed. Three net frills adorned the skirts while gold tinsel ribbon encircled the waist-lines. Gold shoes and gold ribbon on their heads were also worn, while they carried sweet little muffs in a shade to harmonise with their frocks. The bride entered the church on the arm of her father and looked beautiful in her trained gown of old ivory Richelieu satin, the bodice of which was closely moulded to the figure, while tlio skirt fell gracefully into a very long squared train which was outlined with rows of gold stitching. The long sleeves fell verv full .and gracefully In tlio wrists. Her handsomely embroidered tulle veil was held to the head with a coronet of poarls and tiny flowers and formed a secondary train. Gold nan da Is were worn while a shoal of gilded arum lilies was carried. Mr W. Reid assisted the bridegroom
as best man, while Mr Pederson was groomsman. Mr J. Rosoman and Mr C. McCall were the ushers at the church, , After the wedding some eighty guests were entertained at a reception in the Parish Hall, where the guests were received by Airs F. O. Amos, aunt of the bride, and Airs J. Packer, mother of the bridegroom. The former wore a smart wine silk velvet frock and hat and sealskin coat, while Airs lacker was smartly attired in a frock of navy blue georgette and lace, with navy coat, lint and accessories. Taking pride of nlnco on the bride s table was the wedding cake, which was very unusual in design, the top tier resembling a bride complete with veil and bouquet. The usual toasts vv el’C honoured. , Among those present were: Mrs W. Towler (sister of the bridegroom), wearin"' a smart grown of black crepe-de-som, with black hat and matching accessories; Airs S. Packer (New Plymouth), bottle green silk velvet and hat. to tone; Mrs J. Packer, junr., dusky pnik cloque, white fur coat; Mrs T. Packer, navy blue silk gown, patterned in silver'tinsel flowers; Mrs A. Packer, black silk velvet, silver flowers at corsage; Mr and Airs W. J. Crouchor (Palmerston North), Air and Airs R. A. Buchanan (Rongotea), Air and Airs H. V. Caverhill, Mr and Airs R. Aird, Airs It. Al. Bower, All- and Alls Pederson, Air and Airs B. Hogg, Air and Airs N. Hurdle, Air and Airs J. Pcgden (Palmerston North), Mr and All's F. Allen, All' and Airs H. J. Lancaster (Glen Oroua), Airs S. Tasseil (Alarton), Alisses It. Tasscll (Alarton), B. Bridge, Q. Allen, J. Pederson, J. Bower, J. Caverhill, A. Buchanan, D. Towler, H. Kingsbeer, N. Amos, J. Packer, Alessrs J. Rosoman, O. Ale Call, C. Curtis, K. Alasters, S. Towler, G. Bourne (AVnngnnui), and many others. Subsequently, when All' and Airs George Packer set out for their honeymoon, the bride was wearing a very smart navy and white frock, and a diagonal self-striped worsted coat, with a chic spring hat and matching accessories.
