OBITUARY.
MRS ISABELLA MATTHEWS. The deatli of Airs Isabella Matthews, of 34 Grey Street, Feilding, relict of the late Mr John Matthews, “Burnam,” Awahuri, occurred yesterday at the age of 83 years. The deceased lady was born at Fort AVilliam, Inverness, in 1854, and was the second daughter of the late Alt' and Airs Allan Cameron, of Ngakaii, Alartinborough. Airs Alatthews came with her parents to New Zealand in 1855, in the sailing ship AVilliam and Jane, arriving at Wanganui. They resided in Wanganui for a short time before settling in the AVairnrnpa district, where Mr Cameron took up sheep farming. Her marriage took place in 1876 at AVhnreknka, in the Presbyterian church, Rev. Janies Lindsay conducting the service. Following their marriage Mr and Airs Matthews took up farming at Carnarvon, ancl later at Alt. Stewart, and subsequently purchased a Infill, “Burnatn,” at Awnhuri, which Mr Alatthews fanned stio
cessfully until his death in July, 1924, when His widow came to Feilding to live. Mrs Alatthews was a splendid mother and was particularly devoted to her home, which was surrounded by a beautiful garden. She possessed a kindly disposition and did everything in her power to help others. For some years she had not enjoyed good health’, but in her suffering she never complained, and bore her affliction with remarkable fortitude. She was always bright and cheerful. Mrs Alatthews leaves a family of six three daughters, and three sons. Three children predeceased her. Those iof't arc Messrs GJ. Hector Matthews (Awahuri), Edgar R. Matthews and Horace J. Matthews (Alarton), Airs H J. Fagan (Sanson) and Alisses A. and E. Alatthews (Feilding). There are also 17 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren.
