COMING RUGBY TESTS

FORMER ALL BLACK CAPTAIN. VIEWS ON AUCKLAND MATCH. Mr C. G. Porter, the captain of .the famous 1924 All Blacks, who is visiting Palmerston North, was approached by the “Standard” for some comment on New Zealand’s prospects in tne Tests against South Africa. He had little to say, however, because he had not himself seen the Springboks m action. Q , “Their win in Auckland on Saturday,” Mr Porter added, “was only to be expected. With all due respec to Pearce, Hadley, Dick, Killeen, Solomon, and Bush, Auckland are only a provincial side and possibly not tne best; they could not hope to defeat a highly trained international team and I really think they held their end up It was impossible, however, declared the famous All Black captain to form an opinion about the Tests. Your own Palmerston North enthusiasts could come to a conclusion better than i could because they listened-m to the Auckland match while I played goi , he said with a smile. “I may have a fair idea of the All Blacks and I really think that they will be a great side, but until I see the Springboks next Saturday against Taranaki I cannot fairly discuss Test prospects, he concluded.
