SUPREME COURT.
Found not guilty last week on two charges alleging serious offences, Charles Frederick Neil Johnson, a labourer, aged 30, of Palmerston North, stood a second trial before His Honour the Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, in the Supreme Court, to-day, on four other similar charges on which the jury had disagreed. Mr H. R, Cooper (Crown solicitor) conducted the case for tho prosecution, and Mr J. M. Gordon appeared for accused, who pleaded not guilty. The jury were empanelled as follow: —Messrs E. V. West (foreman), R. S- Hart, J. P. "Wilson, J. H. Johnston, J. McShane, 11. H. Stallard, N. E. White, W. Harris, R. W. Buckeridge, A. Bambery, G. Briggs, and A. M. Dale. The Court was cleared for tho hearing, but His Honour said he was making no order forbidding tho publication of the evidence by the Press. That, he added, was a matter which he would leave to their own discretion.
The hearing of evidence then proceeded.
