Snow fell on the high country in Central Hawke’s Bay yesterday, and as a result the Tamumu hills were covered for the first time for a considerable period. Rain fell south of Otane, sleet also being experienced and early in the afternoon the snow was still falling oh the hills. A very cold southerly wind made conditions most unpleasant for those attending the stock sale at Waipukurau. The Wairarapa district yesterday experienced the heaviest fall of snow this year, and up to noon there was a thick mantle on the Tararua Ranges and the surrounding hillsides right down to the foothills.
