RED TRIANGLE DAY.
Y.M.C.A. APPEAL. The Y.M.C.A., in its work amongst the 460 young men and boys of the community, strives to be as self-supporting as possible. The work among the boys, however, will always be a drain on the resources of the association. The low fees, coupled with the free membership which is given to numerous members who, through straitened financial circumstances, would otherwise be debarred, means that to avoid curtailing the activities an appeal to the public of Palmerston North is necessary. The physical work of the association is well kn<% n to the public of Palmerston North, hut the service and co-operation quietly and unassumingly performed by citizens and public bodies, are also worthy of mention. That the Y.M.C.A. has a place in the life of the community is evidenced by tho support which has been given the Red Triangle Day appeal in previous years. To aid tlie appeal, the co-operation of the Ladies’ Auxiliary has been obtained, and this band of helpers will conduct a street stall ; contributions from parents and friends of the boys will be gratefully received. The loyal support of the public, freely given in the past, is again asked for the Red Triangle Day appeal to-morrow, Friday. The appeal is supported, in a letter to the editor of tho “Standard,” by the Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford), Mr J. Hodgcns. M.P., Rev. F. S. Ramson (president of tho Ministers’ Association) and Messrs A. J. Graham (president of the Chamber of Commerce), A. A. Langley-’ (president of the Rotary Club). B. J. Jacobs (president of the R.S.A.), R. W. Priest (president of the Citizens’ Lunch Club), E. Barv (president of tho Headmasters’ Association), J. R. O. Sullivan (child welfare officer), and ,T. H. Stevens (president of the Manawatu and District Justices of the Peace Association). "Every progressive citizen will realiso the tremendous possibilities for good in such an institution as the Y.M.C.A.”, tho letter states. “Realising that the social services so ably organised by this institution cannot be _ carried on without funds, wo trust that citizens will show their appreciation of the work being done by subscribing generously to tho appeal.”
