FESTIVAL OF DRAMA.
WOMEN’S INSTITUTES. INTERESTING COMPETITIONS. Held under the auspices of the North Wellington Federation of Women’s Institutes, the annual festival of drama—a competition between the branches —opened in the Empire Hall last evening. This year, glee singing and folk dancing have been introduced for the first time, and these lent variety to an excellent programme, which -was witnessed by an appreciative audience. Miss Elizabeth Loe, tutor of the British Drama League, is judge of the drama section. She was introduced to the audience by .Miss M. Grant, and at the conclusion of each presentation offered interesting criticism. Mrs W. Sandilands (Feilding) is judging the glees and folk dancing ; ' these competitions will conclude this evening when the results will be announced 0 Mrs Linda Bennett is stage manageress. • . The Milson branch, who will present their play later in the series, showed their versatility last evening when tliev presented two glees, Blue Danube Waltz” and Brahms s Lullaby,” and also, in appropriate costume, a display of folk dancing. The plays presented were as 10lAokautere. —“The Signal” (Helen Gordon). Cast: Mrs L. Craven, Mrs Rudd; Mrs K. Field, Kate Rudd ; Mrs D. Scott, Moira Shand. The play was produced by Mrs D. Scott. ~ Stanway. —“My Kingdom for a (Muriel and Sydney Box). Cast: Miss J. Dermer, Eleanore; Mrs Short, Ernestine; Miss J. Groves, Olive; Miss M. Guy, Shirley; Miss V. Greer, Anette; Miss It. Marshall, Hilda, a maid; Mrs Harvey, Miss Mollison; Mrs Winder Mrs Fartlimdale. Ihe play was produced by Miss M. > ■ Clere. „ Te Arakura.—“A Marriage ±±as Been Disarranged” (Muriel-and Sydney Box). Cast: Mrs Firth, Mrs Holmes; Mrs Lewer Mrs Freeman; Mrs Hume, Mrs Sewell; Mrs Folkston, Mrs Holt; Mrs Whisker, Mrs Sykes; Mrs Haythorne, Mrs Barlow; Miss Burnham, Gladys, a maid. The play was produced by Mrs Whisker. Rangiotu.—“And Now the Journey” (Conrad Cast: Mrs Wilkinson, Kate; Miss Rona Russell, Jean; Mr S. Pearce, Henry; Mr E. Russell, Bert. The play was produced by Mrs L. Bristow.
