BUILDING ACTIVITY.
The demand for houses in Feilding has been acute for over a year now, and although many new dwellings have been erected during the past few months the situation has not eased to any extent, and newcomers still experience difficulty in securing houses. Recently the headmaster of the Lytton Street School had to make an application to the Education Department for a school house and now the department has purchased a suitable residence. Residential sections have been selling very freely, and most have been snapped up. Air T. Collins (Alayor) stated this morning that the joinery department of a local factory - presented an animated scene, the workmen being particularly busy trying to cope with the pile of orders coming in. Alost of the building activity is confined to residential premises, although a major job involving several thousands of pounds for a school hostel is shortly to be in progress. Homes are being erected all over the borough, said another builder, who added that most, if not all, builders and carpenters resident in Feilding were at present fully occupied. At the present rate of building soon the difficulty would be to get building sites.
