AMERICA’S CUP.
TRIAL RACE HELD. DEFENDER’S GOOD SHOWING. Received July 30, 9.40 a.m. NEWPORT, July 29. What is considered to be an indication of the United States yacht Ranger’s chances to defend the America’s Cup occurred in a trial race in which she defeated a group of Class J yachts, including the English Endeavour I, in nine minutes 30 seconds.
The contendere for the America’s Cup are:—United States, Mr Harold S. Vanderbilt’s Ranger; Britain, Mr T. O. M. Sopwith’s Endeavour 11. The races will be sailed off Newport, Rhode Island, commencing on July 31.
