PROTECTORATE ISSUE.
BRITAIN'S POLICY. Received July 30, 12.25 p.m. LONDON, July 29. Mr Malcolm MacDonald reviewed the position as regards the South African Protectorates in the House ot Commons. He said the Government abided by its pledges that_ a transfer could not occur until the wishes ot the local populations were carefully sidered and until Parliament had had the opportunity of expressing its views. A communication to Mr J. B. Hertzog was being drafted dealing with the whole question. Mr MacDonald finally described 193/ as an historical Imperial year, the British Commonwealth demonstrating cooperation between free and equal nations as an attainable ideal.
