BOXING.

At a meeting of the Manawatu Boxing Association, this week, it was decided to foster amateur boxing only in the meantime, due to repeated efforts to arrange a professional contest being unsuccessful. A remit to the annual meeting of the New Zealand association was iramed advocating that all professionals, as in wrestling, should be compelled to take the ring on a percentage basis. It was stated that many professionals were demariding big purses and as the result were killing the sport for themselves. Arrangements were made for the Manawatu amateur championships to he held in the middle of August, and it was decided to make application for the New Zealand championships to lie staged in Palmerston North next year.
