TAKARO REUNION

PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION. There was a large gathering in the Takaro Hall on AVednesday evening when the annual re-union of the Takaro Progressive Association was held. A happy compromise was reached by holding a 500 tourney for non-dancers, the dance programme being strictly old-time. Under the leadership of tho AI.C. (Air R. AlcCulloch) the programme was carried out without a hitch. The men’s SCO competition was won by Air Kiff, while Air D. R. Alills won the consolation prize. Airs Hayter won the women’s prize and Aliss Blackwood the consolation prize. The first prize for women was presented by Airs D. Evans gud Air A. Cooksley donated the first men’s prize. Mr AV. J. AA 7 ass directed the players. The Alayor and Alavoress (Air and Mrs A. F. Alansford) were present, the latter being presented by Muriel Dewar with a posy of japonica, violets, daphne and maidenhair fern, skillfully made by Airs D. Evans.

The president (Air E. H. Smith) in extending a welcome to Air and Airs Alansford. eulogised the work done hv the City Council for the Takaro association. Air Smith intimated that in the near future the association would present two seats for the playing area in the Takaro Park. He also extended a welcome to the representatives of the Terrace End Progressive ’•Association and , voiced his regret at the unavoidable’ absence of the AA’est End association’s representatives.

In replying to Air Smith’s remarks the Alayor thanked the association for its pending presentation and expressed the hope that it would lead other associations to make similar donations.

The supper arrangements and’the decorations were taken care of by the ladies’ committee, under the direction of Airs Smith. Air Russ (piano) was responsible for the excellent dance music supplied. Alisses Gladys Reeves and Nancy McGill won the Alonte Carlo waltz.
