NAVAL BUILDING
BRITAIN IN THE LEAD. AMERICAN REVELATIONS. DETAILS OF NEW SHIPS. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received July 30, 9.45 a.m. WASHINGTON, July 29. The Navy Department published today its so-called Summaries of Comparative Naval Data, in which Britain leads with 285 warships totalling 1,216,398 tons. The United Staes is shown as having 325 warships totalling 1,083,330 tons, Japan 200 ships totalling 745,604 tons. The new vessels being built are:— BRITAIN. Battleships 5 Aircraft carriers 5 Light cruisers 21 Destroyers 46 Submarines 19 UNITED STATES. Battleships 2 Aircraft carriers 3 Light cruisers 9 • Destroyers 55 Submarines 17 Heavy cruiser 1 JAPAN. Battleships Non" Aircraft carriers 2 Light cruisers * Destroyers 14 Submarines 3 The New York Times, in a leader, says: “There is no end to this mad race,” and earnestly pleads with the United States to refuse to be drawn in.
