RANGITIKEI.
AIARTON, July 23. The Alayor (Air F. Purnell) presided over the bi-monthly meeting, of the Marlon Borough Council last evening. Prior to the general business a special meeting was held to make a special order authaiising the raising of a loan of £ISOO for re deeming the outstanding liability after the operation of the accrued sinking fund in respect of the £2250 gas holder loan, nwturing on October 1, 1937. ’J he district engineer of the Railway Department advised that it was proposed to hold over the sealing of the Marton Junction crossing until October or November. It was decided to advise the engineer that it was considered desirable to seal immediately with local tar and to bitumenise in the summer. The Alayor stated, that lie had made arrangements for the lighting of the AVellington Road crossing by tho Railway Department’s employees on five nights of tho week, tho council to undertake the lighting-up on Saturdays and Sundays. It was mentioned that numerous acts of vandalism had occurred in the borough recently and it was agreed to offer a reward. Air Furnell intimated that the State had purchased twelve sections in Alarton for housing purposes. The report of the health inspector stated that from April 1 to June 30 there had been four eases of Infantile paralysis.
