(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, July 30. Tho annua! meeting of the Foxton Horticultural Society was held last evening. The statement of accounts showed that the year ended with a credit balance of £3 9s 4d_after arrears of honornrium had been paid and extra plant acquired. The oxross of assets over liabilities is £7O. . Tho president (Mr J. K. Middleton) considered the position most satisfactory.- Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow: President, Captain J. R. Middleton ; vicepresidents, Messrs C. L. Hunter. M.P., IX (thristie, A. Speirs, senr., B. G. Gower, J. Chrvstall, W. E. Barber. E. J. Murphy, C. 11. Svmons and M. E. Pcrreau; committee, Messrs Jos. Ross, T. A. and A. Rohinson, R. O. Hornblow, G. Cull. J. F. Riches, Mosdames W. Ogden, M. Ross. S. Nowth, E. J. Murphy, R. 0. Hornblow, F. Procter. J. Shorthouse. D. R. Ogilvy, C. Edwards. W. Trueman, E. Titcombe, J. K. Hornblow, and Misses A. and 8.. Speirs, L. Robinson, and E. Barber; secretary, Mr I. W. Mndford (pro tern.); treasurer, Mr W. M. Thomas; auditor, Mr J. Martin. In recognition of tlieir long service, m the interests of the society it was unanimously decided to elect Messrs D. Chrstie and E. J. Murphy life members. Motions of sympathy were accorded the relatives of the late Dr. E M. Wvllic. Mr J. K. ITornblow and Mrs Cummerfield, all of whom had been valued members of the society. It was decided to hold a spring show oil September 9. At the annua! meeting of the Foxton High School Old Pupils’- Association Mr M. Moffat made .fenlincr reference to the death of the late Mr Keith Chrvstall, a young and popular member of the association. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £ll 9s 6d. Officers for the ensuing year are: —Patron, Mr T. Kane; president, Mr M. Moffat; vice-presidents, Miss D. Pijlar, Messrs R. A. Robbie. O. Doel, N. Burdes. and J. L. Thomas. Miss M. Symons and Mr J. Purcellwre'arv, Miss M. Thynnc; committee. Misses B. Hunt, J. Francis J. Barron, Messrs 1). Newton, B. Saveli and C. Baird. Opportunity was taken bv Mr Moffat to refer to the resignation of Miss J. Thynne from the position of secretary. Miss Thynne had rendered excellent service during her term of office since the inauguration of the association a number of years ago, said Mr Moffa', and on behalf'of the association he thanked her for her excellent work. Miss Thynne was elected the first life member. A team from the Foxton Golf Club p'ayed Oroua Downs in an interclub match. Results, Foxton players mentioned first: M’ss B. Speirs halved with Mrs Nichols; Miss U. Barrat halved with Mrs Howard : Miss P. Sutherland heat Mrs Hobbs; Mrs M. E. Pcrreau beat Mrs Shailer: Miss M. Speirs beat Miss Pedersen ; Miss D. Middleton beat Mrs F. C. Raikes.
Miss U. Barrat left Foxton this morning for Napier to commence a nursing profession. Mr and Mrs Apatiri, of Ttotorua, are visiting Mr and Mrs R. Rangiheuea. Mrs J. W. Dayman, of Wellington, is spending llye week-end in Foxton prior to sailing on Tuesday for England where she intends to enjoy a six months’ holiday. Mr IC. Maidens left Foxton to-day for Marton whence he has been transferred. Mr J. E. Rowland. “ Tauranga, who fills the vacancy at the local branch of (be Bank of New Zealand, commenced duty this morning.
