JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVES.
MANAWATU BEAT TE KAWAU. Meeting the Te Kawau Sub-Union’s representative side at Awahuri on Saturday, the Manawatu junior team had a comfortable win, the margin of points being 22 to 3. The teams were as follow : Manawatu. —Mabey, Keneven, Hill, Burton, Crump, Ward, Egdell, Manderson, Kennedy, ltose, Wa.tere, Lett, AVeightman, Adamson, McNeile. Te Kawau. —Saxton, Bell, Gibbons, Dench, Donaldson, Lewis, Thompson, Hancock, Quinlan, Waka, Herbert, Simmonsen, Craig, Rowe, Gardner. After a quiet beginning, Manawatu opened up the passing but Gibbons intercepted. McNeile successfully raced him for possession after Gibbons kicked. A little later McNeile broke a.way, but it was Gibbons on this occasion who smothered the attack. A melee outside the Te Kawau twenty-five resulted in the ball going across the field for Crump to race round and score. Mabey’s kick failed. Gardner was successful with a penalty kick from well out, also slightly into the wind. Crump passed to AVeightman, who made a strong run with only a short distance to go. He hod to let the ball out again and Hill picked up to fall over the line. Mabey’s kick failed.
Te Kawau opened the attack in the second half, but Manawatu elected to play the open game and Hill secured to race over the line. AA’ard’s kick missed. A loose Manawatu forward rush went to the line and Rose touched down. Mabey’s kick was unsuccessful. Egdell sent his backs away from a scrum. Crump made ground and passed to Hill, who nearly reached the line. He passed to AVa.ters, following up fast, who sent the ball on to Manderson, the I latter scoring. Mabey converted. McNeile led a rush over the line, but did not seem to know lie had done so, and Te Kawau forced. Mabey raced up from his full-hack position and threw the ball wide out to Keneven on the wing, the latter scoring. Mabey’s kick hit an upright but bounced the right way. The final score was: Manawatu 22, Te Kawau 3. Mr R. Scott was the referee.
