RAILWAY BUSINESS
INCREASE IN REVENUE. Information regarding business transacted by the local railway station for the four-weekly period just ended is supplied by Mr D. Finlay (statiomnaster), as follows, comparative figures being shown in parentheses:— Outward traffic.—Cattle and calves, 1583 (1834); sheep, 14,924 (10,425); tonnage, 1108 (724); goods revenue, £2OBO (£1566); passengers, 1858 (1621); passenger revenue, £557 (£479); parcels revenue, £42 (£36); miscellaneous revenue, £36 (£14); total revenue, £2715 (£2095). Inward traffic: Cattle and calves, 2045 (1092); sheep, 9677 (5696); timber, (super ft), 84,700 (103,500); goods tonnage, 3162 (2499); goods revenue, £2842 (£2311); parcels revenue, £4B (£43); total revenue, £2990 (£2364). Both inward and outward traffic have improved as compared with the corresponding period of last year, the total inward revenue being higher by £636 and the outward by £620. On the outward side, heavier consignments of sheep to tlie Main Trunk and Waikato districts account for the increase in sheep despatched, while the increase in tonnage is due to large wool and manure consignments. The passenger revenue increased on account of the football trials in Wellington. On the inward side better market prices foxlive stock encouraged heavy truckings of cattle and sheep to the Feilding stock sale. Goods revenuo appreciated, due to the railways handling larger quantities of manures for top-dressing.
