Mr W. Mouldcv. who lias been seriously ill, is renorted to have bad a comfortable night and is slightly improved to-day. Hon. A. Hamilton, leader of the New Zealand Nationalist Party, will arrive in Palmerston North early this evening from Wellington. Rev. W. J. Durran, vicar of Featherston for the past 12 years, is to succeed Rev. E. M. Cowie when he retires from his charge of Khandallah.
The Sunday Dispatch (London) says that Earl Baldwin is suffering from nervous trouble and arthritis. He is not confined to his house but is under medical care.
Sergeant G. L. A. Saunders, who has been chief clerk at the Hamilton police station for the past 17 years, has been transferred to the position of assistant senior-sergeant at Wellington. Ilev. Alan C. Whitelaw, of St. Andrew’s Church, Te Awamutu, has received a call to St. Andrew’s Church, Blenheim. He is to take the place of Rev. J. D. C. Madill, who is now at St. George’s Church, Linwood.
Rev. A. T. Bristed Page, vicar of Miramar and Seatoun, is to retire shortly because of ill-health and advancing years. Mr Page, who was ordained deacon in 1892, has a very long record of service as a priest in the Wellington diocese. He is to be succeeded by Rev. C. E. Willis, who is coming from England.
The death occurred at Gisborne on Saturday after a very brief illness of Mr Percy Cameron Bavly, aged 59. Deceased was a partner, in the leading tobacconist firm of Tattersall and Bayly who are well known to the theatrical profession all over Australia and New Zealand, having been the box office for theatre enterprises since the early days at Gisborne —Press Association.
A Press Association message from Dannevirke records the death of Mr Dougal Fergus, auctioneer and stock representative for the Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Association at Dannevirke, at the age of 55 years. Deceased was summoned to the telephone yesterday morning and collapsed from a heart attack as soon as he reached the instrument. He was well-known throughout stock circles in the Manawatu and Hawke’6 Bay. His wife is expected to return this week from a holiday visit to Suva.
