SPRINGBOKS TEAM
ARRIVAL THIS AFTERNOON. HEAVY MAIL RECEIVED. The Springboks Rugby team,, which is to meet Manawatu on Wednesday next in the fourth match of their New Zealand tour, were scheduled to arrne in Palmerston North by the New Plymouth express shortly after 3 p.m.. today. Officials of the Manawatu Rugby Union had arranged to meet them on their arrival, but at the express wish of the visitors the formality of an official welcome was dispensed with. It was understood that the Springboks might have a practice run at the Showgrounds late this afternoon but the team to oppose Manawatu will not be selected until this. evening the factors of weather conditions and casualties having to be considered. Advice has been received from the team accepting the invitation to attend the Kia J oa Football Club’s dance on Wednesday evening. . , ’ . Whether the Springboks have a heavy “fan” mail or not is not known, but indications appear to point that way, as a heavy volume of correspondence from both New Zealand and overseas was collected on their behalf at Palmerston North this morning.
