THE POLICE FORCE.
TRIBUTE BY MINISTER. WELLINGTON, Aug. 2. Reference to the shorter hours to be worked by the Police Force when the 125 recruits now in training at Trentham have completed their training was made on Saturday by the Minister in Charge of the Police Force (Hon. P. Fraser). Mr Fraser said that the announcement of the reduction in hours had been received with general, satisfaction among members of the Police Force, and not the least sign of disappointment had reached him because the hours could not be reduced to 40 at one reorganisation. “Members of the Police Force to-day from reports received by myself,” added Mr Fraser,- “have never been more satisfied and confident that their interests will be safeguarded than at the present time. Never at any previous time was the force more contended. better in discipline and efficient than it is now. In this respect I would like to pay a well-deserved tribute to the Police Commissioner, Mr D. J. Cummings, and his officers.”
