NEW PENSIONS SCHEME.
PEOPLE OF SMALL MEANS. BRITISH DEVELOPMENT. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 31. The Minister of Health" (Sir Kingsley Wood) last night broadcast a speech on the new Government pensions schemfe, under which some 2,000,000 men and women will become for the first time eligible on a voluntary basis for benefits similar to those enjoyed by persons compulsorily insured under the present widows’, orphans’ and old-age contribution pensions scheme. The scheme is intended for men and women of small means—housekeepers, farmers, ministers of religion, dressmakers, music teachers, etc. —who are outside the existing scheme and whose incomes do not exceed for men £4OO annually or for women £250. Application forms and explanatory literature were made available yesterday in post offices all over the country. and the Ministry of Health is making every effort to see that the advantages of the scheme are made known to all who might benefit by it.
