SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

MANCHESTER STREET SCHOOL. The Manchester Street School Committee mot last night, when Mr G. .1. Fitzpatrick presided. The headmaster (Mr F. Gaze) reported a roll of 394, with an average attendance for July of 356.5. The inspectors, Messrs VV. J, Boden, Crosby and Herrington, had visited tho school on July 8 and 9. The headmaster and Misses Fnrkert and Hague had attended tho Education Week conference, which they considered well worth while. The headmaster asked for recommendations regarding Arbor Hay. Mr Robbie, agricultural instructor, had visited the school that day. The fancy dress ball had been a financial and social success. Tho chairman said tho roll would soon reach tho 400 mark, which was very satisfactory. The inspectors’ report, which was read to tho committee, was considered most satisfactory and the headmaster and staff were congratulated. It was decided to ask Mr A. H. Atkinson to speak to the children on Arbor Day on New Zealand trees and plants. The report on the ball showed a net profit of £25. Thanks were accorded the teachers, ladies’ committee and parents for their help. The committee decided to make further urgent application to the Wanganui Education Board for necessary material and to have repairs effected to the drill area.
