LYTTON STREET SCHOOL.
The monthly meeting of the Lytton Street School Committee was held last evening, Mr C. V. Jewell presiding. The headmaster, Mr W. H. Smith, 8.A., reported that the roll number was 296, while the attendance continued to be very satisfactory. The inspectors had visited the school. Arrangements under the school consolidation scheme had been completed for the conveyance of Awahuri School pupils to become effective from the beginning of the next term. Regarding repairs to the school, the chairman reported that he had received a letter from the Wanganui Education Board stating that the architect and staff had carried out all particularly urgent repairs required during theii recent visit when damage done by an incipient fire was repaired. The chairman said the position was unsatisfactory. Ho felt that the school requirements were being sidestepped or shelved. There were, he contended, obviously urgent repairs required and he considered that should be done. It was decided that the matter be left in the hands of the chairman to draft a reply and that failing satisfaction being obtained a deputation would he appointed to visit Wanganui. It was left in the hands of the chairman to arrange for the grounds to bo grazed by sheep during the term holidays.
