SLEEPING SICKNESS.
PREVALENT AMONG EWES
Sleeping sickness in ewes is not a new disease, it having been prevalent during tho past four or five years, bat that it should bo worse this year is a statement which is viewed very seriously by sheep owners. The unfortunate aspect of tho disease is that it occurs in ewes just before they lamb, the result being that not only is the ewe lost, but also the lamb. Values for inlamb ewes aro high this year and losses of this class of sheep often represent a severe financial loss. One sheep farmer in the Feilding district stated this morning that he had lost fifteen ewes so far this season, and the only consolation he .had was that the disease was usually prevalent for a short period and that when tho feed came away the disease faded out. New pasture is stated to be coming •away slowly in tho Feilding district at present.
