MARKETING OF PIGS.
DOMINION ORGANISATION. “We are unable to report any further increase in tho number of pigs handled, our total reaching 153,000, Which was approximately 4000 lees than last season, but in view of the further intensively increased competition for pig products the figure must bo regarded as satisfactory,” stated the directors of the New Zealand Co-opera-tive Pig Marketing Association, Ltd., in their report to the annual meeting of shareholders at Hamilton. Tho chairman of directors, Air W, A. Phillips, presided aver a large attendance. It was reported that, while the total Now Zealand killings of baconens showed an increase of 23,053 up to May 31, 19,465 fewer porkere woro killed for export. The company handled 165,757 bobby calves, an increase of 32,193. Due to the increased values the association’s income and expenditure account showed a gives turnover amounting to £501.447, as compared with £149,472 for the 1932-33 season. These figures indicated tho remarkable growth of the organisation during tho !ai-t five years. At the commencement of the season there wore general increases in handling charges, totalling £15,000. The administration costs still stood at loss than 2.5 per cent, on the turnover. Cash payments for pigs showed an increases of £32,563, in spite of the reduction in the number of pigs handled. Messrs C. H. M. Sorensen (Taranaki) and W. E. Barber (Manawatu) were reelected to the hoard of directors. A remit that the works charges for handling pigs should bo increased by l*l6th of \the present costs in order to pay a premium. on eelcoted finest baconcrs was cai--11 It was resolved to ask the National Pig Council to take steps to eliminate tho incidence of tuberculosis by insisting .that breeders of pedigree pigs should ha\c all animals tested before Sale. The meeting passed a resolution supporting tho compensating price campaign. It approved of a scheme that groups of. fanners should be formed in all dairying districts for the purpose of securing reductions in the cost, of field one rations connected with the bobby calf trade, and agreed that those groups should he associated with a national marketing organisation.
