A DIVIDED CHURCH

ARCHBISHOP’S SERMON

OUTSPOKEN COMMENT. VCALLS TO RIVAL SHRINES. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received August 4, 10.5 a.m. LONDON, Aug. 3. Tlie Archbishop of York, opening the World Conference on Faith and Order at Edinburgh, delivered an outspoken sermon on the evils of a divided Church. “Even the ordinary lay fold are more ready to come together in the face of a recurrence of paganism than the leaders of ecclesiastical organisations, which are intent on maintaining their traditions and keeping their organisations in working order. How can the Church call on men to worship one God if it is calling them to rival shrines?”
