CROWDS AT SEASIDE.
ENGLAND’S BANK HOLIDAY. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Aug. 3. Summer weather during tho weekend, extending over practically the whole of tho British Isles, helped considerably toward giving the population one of the most satisfactory Bank Holidays for some years. All seaside resorts were crowded, and seasonable sporting events had record attendances. The Automobile Association reports that, considering the extent of road traffic, very few accidents occurred, and these were of a minor character, the standard of driving showing improvement on that set at the previous holidav time.
The King and Queen the week-end at Windsor Castle. \ esterday 12,000 people passed through the State apartments. _ , Though Londoners left the capital, thousands of visitors came from the provinces to see the sights. Fine weather promises to continue. The Cowes regatta opened to-day, and was attended by a phenomenal number of small craft—an indication of the revived popularity of sailing shown during the last few years. HOLIDAY EXPENDITURE. (British Official .Wireless.) RUGBY, Aug. 3. The monthly review published by the Midland Bank contains an article analysing holiday expenditure. The writer estimates that about 20,000,000 people in Great Britain take an annual holiday, which, for the majority, is probably of 'a week’s duration, and he calculates the amount spent at £30,000,000 at least. . . 1 An interesting point made in the article is that, under collective agreements or other arrangements, nearly 2,000,000 workpeople receive a week’s holiday with pay.
