MEDAL FOR GALLANTRY.
AWARD MADE BY KING. MINE WORKER’S BRAVERY. (British Official Wireless.) Received August 5, 11.55 a.m. RUGBY, Aug. 4. The King has awarded tho Edward Medal for gallantry to Mr L. M. Bangley, employed in one of the gold mines at Kakamaga, in Kenya, for tho efforts he made to save the life of a native worker after an explosion in tho mine in January, 1936. Mr Bangley was firing the second round of nine holes when one hole exploded prematurely and he was blown some distance away. His native assistant, who was struck by a rock, fell with his face in water. Mr Bangley returned ill tho darkness, found the native and carried him to safety: The injured man was taken to the surface but died from his injuries.
