WOMEN’S WORLD
Miss Phyllis Crompton, of Heaton Street, Christchurch, is visiting Palmerston North. Mrs C. J. E. Smith and Miss P. Purser, of New Plymouth', have returned home after visiting Palmerston North.
Mrs P. A. O’Neill and Miss Ryan, of Wanganui, visited Palmerston North for* the football match yesterday.
Several members of the nursing division of the St. John Ambulance Association were on duty at the Showgrounds yesterday, and while there were, no serious cases for treatment their presence was much appreciated by those who required their services. MioS M. Buchanan, secretary of the Manawatu Racing Club, arrived in Sydney on July 27 on her way to India. She is one of the three women secretaries of race clubs in Australia and New Zealand (says a writer in the Sydney Morning Herald). The Clarence River Jockey Club, New South Wales, of which Miss K. O’Mara is secretary, has just concluded its successful Gold Cup meeting. There are still those who do not know that the secretary is a woman, and if they have occasion to see that official the conversation runs like this: “Where will I find the secretary?” “Over there.” . . . “No; he isn’t.” “Yes; she is.” .. . Which is all very confusing, but supplies the townspeople with many a laugh. A great deal of Miss O’Mara’s mail is addressed, K. O’Mara, Esq. Miss D. Bray, of the Wellington Racing Cub, is the third woman secretary.
