THE TASMAN RECORD.

POSSIBLE RACE BETWEEN SHIPS. Received August 6. 9.55 a.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 6. The (Morning Herald says that shipping circles are speculating whether the°Awatea and the Monterey, leaving Auckland to-day, will race across the Tasman. The Herald adds: “To Australians and New Zealanders, the speed record for the Tasman has had great significance ever since sailingship days and all would like to see it recaptured by a British ship. It should only be a matter of time before the Awatea secures the honoiy for a record crossing. This week-end, however. it is unlikely, as the Tasman is in turbulent mood.”
