MANAWATU UNION

The management committee of the Manawatu llugby Union met last evenm£j Air A. AI. Ongley presiding. Others present were Alessrs F. E. Slierwood, J. R. Hardie, It. Foster, R. Gillespie, B. Palmer, J. Eagle and H. R. Crawford. It was decided to hold a senior seven-a-side tournament at Palmerston North on Saturday, provided that not less than six entries are obtained by tomorrow. Arrangements were completed for the match on Saturday between Kia Toa and Foxton juniors for tho Rowland Cup. Authority was given for the match between tho Evergreens, comprising former Manawatu representatives, and the Centurions, of AVellington, to be held in Palmerston North on September 28.

The secretary (Air G'. A. Brown) submitted a statement showing that the income for the insurance fund amounted to £94. Claims totalled £62, leaving a profit of £32. It was resolved to write to the junior advisory committee congratulating it on its organisation of the junior seven-a-side tournament.

Air G. A. Hayden (secretary of the National Patriotic Fund Board) wrote acknowledging receipt of the union’s cheque for £122 11s 9d as a donation to the Patriotic Fund, being the proceeds of the representative game between Manawnatu and the Trentham Army team on July 27. The board, he stated, was deeply grateful for the donation and also to tho Manawatu A. and P. Association for its action in allowing a remission of rent for the use of the ground. The University Club advised that its junior team would be unable to meet any further engagements thi9 season, many of its members being in camp. W. D. Little, now of Hawke’s Bay, who played nine representative games last year for Manawatu, was granted a representative blazer. Tho United Club was granted permission to play tho Petone third grade team on Saturday, the ground to be arranged. Messrs Ongley, Brown and Hardie were appointed a subcommittee tohandle the union’s affairs during the recess.
