This Company is formed for the purpose of completing the construction of a Railway from Wellington to the Manawatu, to join the Foxton and New Plymouth Raiiway. It is proposed to raise at least £50,000 of the capital within the colony, payable as follows : — 2s 6d. per share on application, 2s. 6d per share on allotment, and the residue by calls not exceeding ss. per share, at intervals of not less than three months. The company proposes to ask for power to acquire tbe native lands between Otaki and the Manawatu, through which the line will pass, and ! should this power be granted to them, the promoters have reason to believe that the 'land, when acquired, would speedily be disposed of for settlement at a profitable rate. In view of this, the promoters are about to open negotiations with the Native proprietors with respect to its acquisition. The concessions which the Government have made, and other particulars, are fully set forth m the prospectus, which can be obtained from the Secretary, or at any of the branches of the Bank of New Zealand throughout tte colony, and to which is annexed a form of application for shares. Immediate application for shares is necessary. The share list will close on the Slst May, 1881. PEESS CONSULTATION. CHRISTCHURCH GREAT AUTUMN HANDICAP, To be Run for on April 18, 1881. ONE THOUSAND MEMBERS AT A POUND. First Hone ... ... ... £300. Second „ ... ... ... 200 Third „ 100 Starters (divided) ... 100 Non-Startefß (divided) 800 £1000 29 Nominations, 29 Awards. THE Promoters of the Press Consultation have decided to inaugurate a series of ifilOOO Drawings, the first of which takes pace on the nbove event. It is confidently anticipated that No. 1 of this Series will close about tbe 26th of March. A ; satisfactory feature m this airangement will be that successful subscribers will be m receipt of their good fortune so .far. in advance of the event as to enable, them to again try their luck, should they desire to do so. Immediately No. 1 is filled, the drawing will take place m a Pulic Hall (as usual), the result telegraphed to winners and posted to others, and No. 2 opened. ' By adopting this plan it will be seen that while the chances against subscribers are reduced, the awards to winners remain very substantial. It has been suggested to us by numerous correspondents to adopt tlic- I'ltti nf dividing the money amongst several eveuN, known >is the " Oracle," bnt whi-ri we calculate the division of tte money by that plan, and find the amounts for starters and nonstarters so very insignificant, we have determined to proceed upon a plan which will as far as possible reduce the chancea against and still make it worth while to be a winner. We would remind our patrons at a distance that while we have no objection to a good long letter, many of which we receive often, displaying literary attainments, it is not really necessary to do more than to supply a ' correct address, with, of course, the necessary amount. Companies sending for a book of 25 tickets will be allowed the usual agents' discount— viz., £1. North Island subscribers are particularly requested to make early application, so as to facilitate the first drawing. Please send P.O. Order where obtainable, or cheque with Is exchange added and two stamps for reply and result, J. J. CONNOR, Tbeasukeb, "Atmospheric" Printing Works, Of tagon, Dnnedin,
