MURDER AT REEFTON.
GREYMOUTH, Tuesday. News has peached here from Reefton of a man named Bell, a sort of a cockatoo settler near Boatmau's Creek, being found m his cow shed with his brains blown out. His murderer is supposed to be one David M'Gahey alias' Yankey Dave. ' : Jealousy is alleged to be the cause. Several policemen have been despatched to the scene. The suspected murderer is missing. The name of the murderedman is John Bell, of Larry's Creek. Westport road. Mr Cereseto called on n i m Saturday morning and found him bailing up cows. Mrs .M'Grahey wag there, but she left soon after for Reef ton. 1 "When Coreseto called again mi n *^ c afternoon, he could make n<> one ne * r him/ and^on going to the cow shed he found a cow tied up and Bell tying oh the ground with the back ?* head battered m. The place afforded avidence °f a fearful struggle. Decesed m his death grip clutched a piece of male clothing and human hair which he retained w] en the poor fellow was found. In the morning when Cereseto was there Bell asked him $ he had seen M. Gahev, and he said he had not. It is supposed that the murderer crept on Bell unpereeived after Mrs M'Gahey's departure, and struck him on the head. A dozen policemen are scouring the ranges m every direction m search of the murderer. Last Night. M'Gahey, the alleged murderer of Bell was captured m the ranges today. He had been seen going across Managhua River, and the Little Grey police were notified of this fact and immediately followed close on his track, eventually capturing him. It is stated that M'Gahcy's jealousy was well grounded, and that latterly he had been brooding over his grievances.
