Notes from Campbell town.
(From our own correspondent.) Campbell own, July 31. The approaching election for the County Council occupies the attention of all hands, indeed some of them are so intent on the matter that one would imagine their very existence defended on the result. On Saturday last the following candidates for the vacant seats we e nominated at the Schoolhouse, Campbelltown : — M'Lennan, John Davis, William Hammond, Henry M'Kenzie, R B. Larkworthy, F. B. Since the nomination Hammond has for some occult reason withdrawn his name, and the election is now limited to four candidates for three seats. Davis and M'Lennan would both prove most desirable members, and are almost sure of being elected — the other two are beneath notice ; neither are likely to be of much use, nor ornamental either for the matter of that, but the electors must put up with one of the figure-heads. Mr H. Sanson, of Sandon, has taken Bob M'Kenzie under his especial patronage, the two having buried the hatchet for the notice, after their late battle over the Road Board questions. A happy uni n of t e old Wind-bag and the Blatherskite! Apropos of the Road Board, the petition requesting the abolition of that body, after being hawked about, coddled and assiduously nursed by obsequious flunkies, has come to naught, as, after all the efforts made, the requisite majority of signatures could not be ob ained. Thus another of Sanson's dodges has proved as ineffectual as his grand milling scheme.
