Murder of Eutopeans by Island Natives.
Per Press Association. Auckland, Nov 5. By the Penguin, from Fiji, the following item of Fijian news has been received : — f Th» schooner Energy at Levuka report** having been m the Islands as far as Banks Group, On arriving at Apia, one of the stations which belong to the owners of the schoonei it was found that a trader at the station, named Edward McEwan, had been shot the day before. The coast tribe say that the Bushmen first- killed their chief and after* wards M'Ewan. In going north towards the Bank Group she touched at Aoha, when she heard that a Frenchman, named Matthieu Ferri, had been tomahawked m a small gutter belonging to the company for which the Energy trades. He was iifled while buying nuts. A Malli,cofo boy and one Lifou boy swam aaKore and eventually saved the cutt*p, although she had been completely looted. 'At Rewa, a filterer named Archi« bald Milson, m the employ of the Colonial Sugar Company, was brutally murdered by some person or persons unknown. Captain A. J. Kusfej, % gentleman of Samoa, bought a vessel named Vavau. After the vessel has been repaired, Captain Kustel told his friends on shore that he was go* in£ out m the Vavau, m order to test, her sailing capabilities, and said he would return m two days, but nothing has since been beard of the * vessel, although some months have elapsed since she left Samoa for her two days' cruise. There is very little room for doubt as to the fate of "the vessel and all on board.
