Rechabite Social Gathering.
The Bchabites of Palmerston N. held a social re-union last evening m the Wesleyan school room. There were about 100 members and an equal number of friends present, all of whom partook of an excellent tea prepared by the members of the Female Tent. After tea the tables were cleared away, and a public meeting was held. The room was crowded, and the proceedings were opened with singing and prayer, after which J. Linton, Esq., took the chair, and briefly seated his views on the cause that had brought them, together. Several of the juvenile members gave recitations and songs \ery creditably. Mr Gr. Wakelin rendered "The Beggar Woman feelingly, and Mr And^ewarthagave "Bey your own Cherries " very nicely. Mr A. Levy gave an address oil Rechabitisrn, m yvhich he referred to the difference m the spalls of contribution and entrance fees m the various Friendly Societies m New Zealand and showed that those of the 1.0. R., were the safest aud most equitably arranged. He also gave the sipk and death rate of the various societies m New Zealand, m wlrich the Rechabites were shown to experience only half the sickness and death of the orders, The sick rate of the 1.0.E, for the past thirteen years had been, at age 16, 3 days 8 hours, and at age 45, 8 days 10 hours, while the oldest and largest branch of a non»abstaining order m N.Z. (just valued for the i past 5 years) gave an average sick rate of 14 days per member during the whole quinquennium.
