OUR RAILWAY TARIFF.
To the Editor. Sir, — In April last. I wrote to MV Botheram, requesting to be allowed to send firewood from Jackeytown m less than quantities than •■">■ cords, paying the same a*, freight, and guaranteeing » men* of from £10 to £I' 2 yW' year. To this he replied unfavorably. Yesterday, being down at Foxton, I had the opportunity of bringing the matter personally before him. He then stated that he understood my request, but it could not be granted. It would be too tedious to famish you with the full details of my reasons for asking for this modification. One roason was that owing to theroad at the Jackeytown siding being so narrow, three cords would form a serious obstruction to the traffic, if it had to remain m readiness, to be placed iv the truck, I have besides, had to repeatedly ree fuse orders m Foxton for the less amount. If these hard and fast laws are carried out on our railways it would not take a fourth standard boy to arrive at the results; ; lamj &c, George Kichardson. , Karere, June 24.
