A LUCKY TAR.
We hear that Captain Fraser, the skipper of the Jane Douglas, than whom no more popular captain sails on the coast, has recently had word of the legacy of a nice little sum to him through the death of a relative. It appears that the money was pay* able some seven years ago, but the Captain's reckoning having been lost T»y his friends, they were unable to acquaint him. of the pleasing fact. It came out at last m rather a curious way. It appears Captain Fraser has a brother at Ballarat, who me<t the engineer of the " Botomahana at Melbourne, and m course of cqnver« Ration asked him if he hew a Fraser m New Zealand, The engineer tj»* unable to give the informatjon, bu£ .-' mentioned the matter to Captaia I Caray, who of course replied— C& yes, write to the Captaia of the Jane Douglas at Wellington^, and you'l| find him {" This was done with the result that onr local skipper heard of his brother and also of i*_oGo for.y himself besides. We heartily congratulate the skipper of the locally-, owned boat on his luck, and- hope he may long live to enjoy his legacy. —Manawatu Herald.
