August 8. The Hawea floated off the bank m the Manukau last night, aided by hawsers from four steamers, she left this morning for the South. At the half yearly meeting of the Bay of Islands Coal Company the report stated tbat the sales of coal amounted to 12,566 tons. The accounts showed a marked improver* ment ov- the previous half year. An attempt was made to dock the Triumph' tw*d ay, but she grourded • iff d ck. The 'propeller was removed, bat owing 'to the tides being bad, it is doubtful if the attempt will be a success at present A fund is being raised for John Howe, the actor, to send him to Sydney, and give him a fresh start Poor H^we is a brother to Farjeon, the novelist.
