Of the few children the greater por* tion died. The people are dying for want.of nourishment. China ban* anas are the only food m the district. The natives will not plant because they cannot ensure themselves the result of their labor. The Lala comes m and robs at will, The Systems of the people have no resisting power against the disease. The wildest bf sickness carries them off. Added to this is the want of any stimulus to exert- When hope has abandoned them they simply lie down and die, * A Buryeyor named Prank Sewall, charged at the Police Court with obtaining money on false pretences, was remanded. It appears be realised on a cheque signed by himsell and drawn ov a Blenheim bank. It w*s subsequently found that he had no account. ' Pottor'sj Wool Scouring Company is to be wound lip. There 13 a debit balance of £526. Charles Wesley attempted suicide at Queen-street wharf by drowning. He was crossed m love, and his r«asoa was unhinged. "
