Eighteen competitors entered for the Gordon-Bennott cup motor race over a 342 miles courflo in Franco. It resulted; Thery (France) firsi, in a liichard Brassier car, 7hr 2min 42seo ; Nazarri (Italy) second, in a Flat car, 7hr 19min 9sec ; Cagus (Italy) third, in v Flat oar, 7hr 21min 22sec. The English competitors finished eighth and ninth. Forty five deaths are reported in Borlin from heat, and seven in Vienna. Seven soldiers died, and 200 wore incapacitated while on tho march to Trieste. Two thousand four hundred and thirty-one casualties, including 466 deaths, occurred during the fourth of July celebrations in America. May^homas, author of the biography of Sir John Robioson, has been awarded £300 damages for Henry Lucy's libellous criticism in Punch.
