A conversational discussion took place on the respective merits of borrowing, on which no subsidy was obtained, and raising money by means of subscriptions and levies. Each of the various members spoke on the subject, but eventually the matter was deferred for future consideration. The chairman voiced the opinion that most of the sub-scripiion-raising fell upon the Palmerston district. The people of 'the snrrounding districts did not contribute in so generous a manner as their town friends. Various, members also deprecated the parochial spirit shown by the public in regard to the hospital, an institution which should be freo from anything savoring of parochialism. Mr Phillpbts drew attention to the fact that he had several, times made efforts to raise subscriptions in his district, but had met wtth indifferent success. . ; TICKET SYSTEM. Mr W. Pearoe gave notioa of the following motion: "That the ticket system of admission to the Hospital be adopted by this Board, and that the subscription of JBl per annum and upwards entitle j the subscriber or one of his employees to free treatment and maintenance in the .Hospital during the currency of the ticket." In introducing the motion Mr Pearoe said that the adoption of this system would give the country subscriber as much benefit bb the townsman, seeing that only indoor treatment would be given. MISCELLANEOUS. After the luncheon adjournment a visit of inspection of the. Hospital grounds was made, attention being paid to the isolated wardj for. the alteration and extension of which a number of tenders had been received.
