The team selected to play against tho visiting Fcilding tennis team at the week-end is as follows: —Mesdames Mcßae, senr., A. Dick, K. AVaterson, Misses Calder, Osborne, Mrs. R. Osborne, Miss L. Osborne and Mrs. O. Buckman; Messrs. A. H. Mcßae, A. Lt. Mcßae, Stevens, C. Buckman, O. Osborne, T. Osborne, E. Osborne and H. Schmidt. Any player unable to be present is asked to notify Mr. McNac. Apiti players will provide luncheon and afternoon tea. The ladies’ and men’s tennis ladders have now been arranged. In the men’s ladder players below eleventh place may challenge anywhere up to number 11 for position.

Women’s Institute The December meeting held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Tuesday afternoon was well attended. The president, Mrs. C. Stanley, was in the chair. Mr. Christie and his assistant gave a most interesting demonstration on the Singer sowing machine and tho uses of the various attachments. In the competition for three heaviest hen eggs, Mrs. R. V. Stewart’s entry was first, weighing 7%0z.; Mrs. B. Martin’s second, being 7oz. In the cretonne article competition Mrs. Jacobs won first prize, Miss Strahan second, and Mrs. H. Strahan third. The prizes for these competitions were donated by Mrs. AV. J. Viles and Miss Strahan. Apiti voted in favour of Oroua for our group name. Members responded splendidly [to tho Christmas box for the AVillard Home. After the meeting a ease of goods was sent to Palmerston North. The January meeting will be a picnic in tho Domain, and tho competitions will be for cream puffs and for the three best buttonholes, either in a garment or on a piece of material. The hostesses served a dainty afternoon tea and the National Anthem concluded the meeting.
