League of Mothers
YIOE-EEGAL TRIBUTE. An encouraging letter was read at the annual meeting of the Wellington branch of the League of Mothers last week, as follows: “It is with genuine regret that, owing to public engagements in Christchurch, which necessitate my leaving Wellington this evening, I shall bo unable to attend the annual -gathering of the League of Mothers as I had hoped at one time to do. “The value of the work of tho leaguo has increased with each year of its existence, and it is now a great and growing powor for good throughout the Dominion. It emphasises —without any distinction of class or sect —the serious responsibilities of motherhood and the extent to which their full realisation brings peace, happiness, joy and contentment into the home. And it is, after all, the character, truth, and purity of individual homes upon which tho great mass of a nation depends. “Of these tho paramount importance of truth is sometimes overlooked. Unless there is a love of truth and perfect frankness between parent and child, a barrier is bound to be raised between them which destroys confidence and family affection. Nothing is more calculated to engender truth than the fostering in young people of the love of God and the realisation that a Divino Father is ever present with them and watching over them. “It must be a source of thankfulness to us ell that Lady Alico Fergusson, the much-loved foundress of the league, is recovering satisfactorily, though slowly, from her very serious accident of a year ago. “You have my warm congratulations on the past achievements of t-lio league, and my sincerest hopes for its future usefulness and success. (Signed) Elaine Blcdisloe.”
