Mischief in Railway Yards
SHUNTING OPERATIONS ENDANGERED. Per Press Association. TE KUI.TI, Oct. 3. An attempt was made to wreck rolling stock in the railway yards early on Monday morning. While shunting at 3 a.m. an engine driver noticed the points of a sideline half cocked. An examination show, ed that they had been forced apart by two large stones. Further along the line a heavy jigger had been placed across the rails. But for the vigilance of the shunting staff, the engine would have been derailed. Later detonators taken from the jigger exploded when the engine went over them.
The mischief appeared to be the work of more than one man, as the jigger was too cumbersome for a single man to lift.
