One of the most enjoyable and successful functions of the district took place on Monday evening when the Ohakea Ladies’ Hockey Club held their wind-up dance and social. Tiie hall was well filled and visitors were present from the surrounding districts. A. professional orchestra provided the music and dancing continued till the early hours, extras being supplied by Miss R. hrecklington and Mr. P. Rewiti. A dainty supper was served by the ladies' committee, and all the arrangements were in the hands of this committee with Miss Elfa Ellery as secretary. During the evening novelty dances were held, the prizes being donated by Misses N. Stevens, D. Ellery and L. Bailey. The winners of the Monte Carlo waltzes were Miss I. Matthews and. Mr. J. Lumsden, while Miss Matthews again won with Mr. D. Murray. The statue dance was won by Miss R. Tohu and Mr. E. McGregor. During the interval after supper Mr. H. Ellery, on behalf of the ladies, briefly welcomed those present and congratulated the team on the standard of play during the season. He then presented tho various prizes won during the evening. Miss M. Ellery, captain of the team, presented Miss L. Bailey, who had coached the team, with a pair of gloves as a mark of appreciation of her efforts. Miss Bailey suitably replied after cheers had been given. A euchre tournament was also held, those winning most games being Mrs. G. Ell-iy Lange instructor) visited the school on Tuesday a nol inspected the science work.
