Provincial Federation Of Women’s Institutes

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE A meeting of the North "Wellington Federation of Women’s Institutes held at Messrs Collinson and Cunninghame’s on Tuesday was presided over by Mrs J. D. C. Crewe (Pahiatua). Also present were Mcsdames A. McCorkindale (Feilding), A. P. Easton (Foxton), Waring-Taylor (Shannon), E. E. and W. G. Short (Cheltenham), H. J. Barnicoat. (Kimbolton), W. H. Stainton (Mangotainoka), R. Austin (hon. secretary, Pahiatua), and Miss Grant (Palmerston North). There were apologies from Mosdamos Churchill (Bulls) and Burnett (Wooflville). Correspondence received included invitations from South Wellington and Wanganui Federations to attend their half-yearly council meetings at Otaki and Turakina on October 12 and 19 respectively. Tialritahuna W.I. notified the formation of the Longburn group, at which representatives of Aokautere j Tiritea, Longburn, Kairanga and TiakitaJhunn Institutes had been present. The appointment of Mrs Davis (Tikitahuna) as group convener was approved. Mrs Burnett sent in a preliminary report on the arrangements made for the new calendar and thanks were accorded Mrs Burnett and Mrs McCorkindale in this connection.

Mrs Austin presented the financial statement acknowledging receipt of £lo 2s 4d from the Crawford shield potato competition, also the following donations from institutes: Milson 10s, Makino 10s 6d, Mangatainoka £l, Foxton £1 ss, Whakarongo £2, Pahiatua £l, Kaitawa 10s, Oolyton l'ss, Tokomaru 7a 9d Woodvlllo £1 3s Id, Pohangina 16s, Cheltenham 10s, Martinborough 17s 6d, Mangamaire 4s, Taikorea ss, Waiata 6s, Utuwai £l, Awahuri £l, Alfredton 10s 6d, Tiakitahuna 13s, Rangiwahk. £l f Rangiotu 15s, Longburn 7s, Kimberley 4s, Kumeroa-Hope-lands 10s, Horoeka ss, Glen Oroua 6s, Stanway £1 Ss sd, Ashhurst £1 14s 6d, Koputaroa £1 3s, Linton £l, Bunnythorpe 7s 6d, Oroua Downs 10s > Bulls £3 2s, Halcombe lls 9d, Pongaroa 10s, Waione 10s 6d, Taonui £l, Kimbolton 18s 6d. Arrangements were finalised for the half-yearly council meeting to be held at Pahiatua on October 31. The secretary was instructed to secure a speaker to deal with native birds and flora. Voluntary organisers were recommended for the ensuing year as follow: Mesdamefi E. E. Short, A. McCorkindale, W. G. Short, Barnicoat, Waring Taylor and Miss Grant, The following new institutes were reported as having been formed since last meeting:—-Poroutawhao, Carnarvon, Rakanni, Dyerville. Mrs Short and Miss Grant reported on various activities among the institutes and Mrs McCorkindalo touched briefly on conference matters. Congratulations were extended to Mrs McCorkindalo and Miss Grant- on their election to the Dominion executive.

The action of the finance committee in taking over All Saints’ Children’s Home at Foxton beach as a "holiday house" was endorsed, and considerable discussion centred round the management of same. The following sub-com-mittee was set up to control affairs: — The president, vice-presidents, secretary and Mesdames McCorkindale and Easton.

The sum of £lO was voted to the Rest Home account and tho following donations were gratefully acknowledged:—Eongotca W.I. £l, Mrs Burnett £l, Mrs Crewe 10s. Thanks were also extended to Mrs Haigh (Woodville) for a fine collection of miscellaneous articles, and to Makuri W.I. for a sea-grass stool. Mrs Grant reported on the recent drama festival, which had been an unqualified success, the profits from which amounted to £l3-odd. This amount will also go to assist the Rest Home scheme.

Thanks were accorded Mrs L. .Bennett and Mrs Churchill for their work in connectiou with the festival.

A comprehensive schedule of handcrafts was drawn up for use for special displays at forthcoming shows, and tentative arrangements were made for the exhibition and sale stall at the Manawatu spring show, Mrs Harrison to be asked to take charge.
